Black Bull Inn is a Best Bar None Gold award winning pub with a relaxing lounge bar which serves meals from midday until 9pm. There are 3 flat screen TV's and we host regular LIVE music events here. The public bar is a cosy getaway featuring over 100 different whiskies for you to sample. We also welcome dogs into our public bar and beer garden areas. Finally, the Black Bull features a function room which is available for any event, see below for details.

The lounge bar serves food daily from midday until 9pm, with classic pub favourites featuring on the menu alongside lighter lunch options like baguettes, sandwiches and baked potatoes. Be sure to check the specials blackboard for something a little different.


Our function room is available for almost any event. The room holds around 60 guests comfortably for a normal functions although the room can be adapted to suit you requirements. We offer several buffet options to supply your guests with premium party food. When taking one of these buffet options for at least 25 guests, your room hire will be absolutely FREE!

We host regular LIVE music events here at the Black Bull promoting small local acts. We also host bi-monthly whisky tastings and run a weekly poker league and domino flyer.

The public bar houses over 100 different whiskies. The range contains both single malts and blended whisky and has some old favourites such as Glenfiddich as well as some of the more obscure drams such as the Scallywag. Our whiskies also range broadly in price with our Glen Moray Port Cask coming in at just £1.50 a nip up to the Balvenie 21 year old at £8.60.

Established in the small village of Mid Calder in 1747, this pub is one of the busiest meeting places in the area. Black Bull Inn is at the heart of the community, and enjoys a prime location, sitting snugly in the shadow of its new town neighbour, Livingston, close to nearby rail links.

Regular public transport is available in and out of Edinburgh as well as locally around the Calders and Livingston. First Bus operate the 27 & 28 services that go between Edinburgh and Bathgate stopping in Mid Calder. The local Horsburgh company also operate services in the area but it's worth checking the timetables.
