Black Bull Inn, Mid Calder
Market St, Mid Calder, West Lothian, EH53 0AA
Landlord Donald McLauchlan is a past Chairman of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and runs the Black Bull Inn with his wife Lynda. Living with their four children in the village and being part of the community helps create a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere in both the lounge and public bars. Having taken over the pub in August 2009, Donald is a keen sponsor of the Mid Calder Gala Day.
A Long History
Established in the small village of Mid Calder in 1747, this pub is one of the busiest meeting places in the area. The Black Bull Inn is at the heart of the community, and enjoys a prime location, sitting snugly in the shadow of its new town neighbour, Livingston, close to nearby rail links. One of its period features; a real coal fire crackles in the cosy lounge bar in winter, drawing visitors in from the cold.
Something for all the Family
The Black Bull Inn sits close to the banks of the River Almond and this breathtaking rural area is a well-kept secret, a haven for those who like to walk, fish, paint or enjoy a day out with the family. For those in need of a refreshment, to the rear of the pub is a tidy, well kept beer garden which is dog friendly. Children are welcomed in the lounge bar where good, freshly prepared, tasty food is served.
Awards: Black Bull Inn and Donald McLauchlan were recently awarded the Certificate of Excellence from Cask Marque, an independant body that inspects the quality of cask beers.
